Thermo isolation

To preserve an ideal temperature in your housing, and to preserve qualities of insulation of construction, it is important that gates and windows are not “cold pits” (or with heat). Glass, , is a bad isolating material, and must profit from an special attention.

The double-glazing

The double-glazing consists in locking up a blade of air between two more or less thick walls of glass. On this type of panes, you will find:

• a mention thickness: for example, “12/4/4” means “two walls of glass of m separated by m”
• a coefficient of insulation (noted U, and expressed out of W/m ². K): the smaller it is, the more the window is insulating. The value of U is approximately 2,9 on a standard double-glazing (12/4/4).

The glazing with strengthened insulation

For even more performances, the manufacturers propose today glazings with strengthened insulation, or .

One of the inner faces of the double-glazing is covered with a fine layer of money or metallic oxides. This “barrier”, while being opposed to the infra-red radiation, has two advantages:

• It controls heat winter like summer
• It preserves the daylight with a top-level.

Gates

That it is of the main door, a gate communicating with the garden, a storeroom, a lean-to building or a garage, all the gates giving on outside or of the less heated parts must profit from a good insulation.

Sealing

Do not forget either that the joints must be tight to avoid the escapes and the drafts.

To note: the quality of the insulation is likely to vary according to the nature of the joinery which surrounds the gates and the windows.

In addition to its thermal properties, the double-glazing has qualities of soundproofing. Nevertheless, if the noise is particularly important, a conventional double-glazing is not enough.

• the asymmetrical double-glazing: the thickness of the external wall of glass is increased. One thus finds windows which are marked 6/10/4
• the composite double-glazing: the external glazing is not composed any more of only one but of two walls of glass stuck one on the other on an insulating film.
• One can also use for the interior wall a laminated glazing composed of polyvinyl butyral . This last reduces noise pollutions considerably (more than 40 decibels).

• to increase the time of intrusion: the more it will spend minutes to be entered on your premise, the more it will take risks, and more quickly it will be discouraged.
• to incite to leave the places quickly so that it has neither time to ransack your housing nor that to conceal your goods
